Does your school staff work together?

I have been putting together a new topic: “The Basics of Team Building” designed for the preschool and K area for all staff and not just supervisors and directors. The following questions are asked about school staff working together as a team or are we just doing our own thing everyday? Do we know what our duties are and do we follow through? Do we feel burnt out at times trying to figure out what to do with children? Does children frustrate us at times? Do we struggle figuring out what to do with children by ourself or do you get the help from other staff? Do we think it would be easier for all staff to work together and help each other? Wouldn’t it be nice to be part of a “we” team better and not just an “I” for doing it alone!”

So a few questions to evaluate and rate your school was put together:

There are 438,700 pre-school teachers but 78,000 change jobs yearly and thus, growth is 17%. Sometimes, I will ask the teachers how long have you worked at your school? There are answers from my first year to 18 years. If we have to try to be team members, do you think that this makes a difference? I worked at a school for 30+ years. We were a team and it took 10 years to develop. However, when 2 teachers left, the team approach fell apart, replaced with 2 others and we had to start all over again to learn to be that team!
